Turkeys are at the center of Thanksgiving. During November, we celebrate them with a turkey craft, and then come Thanksgiving, the turkeys are sitting on our tables, waiting to be enjoyed.

Turkey Facts

Not many people know this, but turkeys contain an amino acid, Tryptophan, which sets off a chemical reaction that makes us sleepy and calm.  Hence, the calm that falls over all of us after we stuff ourselves with our favorite dishes.

Another fascinating thing about turkeys is the fact that Benjamin Franklin believed that the Turkey would be a far more respectable bird than the Bald Eagle!

Sorry, I promise I’m done rambling about turkeys; now I’ll just ramble about turkey crafts. ?

The Turkey Craft

Crafts are amazing in so many ways, they provide a fun activity to do, help with fine motor skills, look adorable hanging up.  This turkey craft is perfect for all those reasons and more.

I have a template if you don’t want to freehand the craft.

How To Make Your Turkey Craft

Step 1


  • Cut a circle out of brown paper

Step 2

Head & Neck

  • Cut an oval out of brown paper for the neck
  • Cut a circle out of brown paper for the head

Step 3


  • Cut out long ovals for the feathers with different colored paper

Step 4


  • Cut out two white circles and two smaller black circles to go on the white circles (Eyes)
  • Cut out an orange triangle for the beak
  • Cut a red hockey stick shaped piece for the snood

Step 5 (Last step to make your Turkey Craft)

Wings & Legs

  • Cut out two ovals for the wings
  • Cut out two rectangles for the legs
  • Cut out three tiny rectangles for the toes

Turkey Jokes For Kids

  1. What do turkeys give thanks for on Thanksgiving?
    • Vegetarians
  2. Why didn’t the Turkey eat any food?
    • He was already stuffed
  3. Why did the turkey cross the road?
    • Because the chicken had Thanksgiving off
